DIY Plumbing - Is it illegal?

We love a weekend DIY job just as much as anyone, but there are some things that need to be left to the professionals. Plumbing, gas fitting and electrical works are three of them. Here's why:

1. It's dangerous

More than 25,000 people are hospitalised each year while attempting to complete DIY work. Not only can these injuries be expensive, they can lead to long term complications or even death. A report from 2012 found that one in three DIY enthusiasts experienced health problems after completing their work.

2. It's illegal

It's illegal to do the majority of plumbing works yourself. If you get caught or injure others, there can be big fines and prison time, depending on the situation. You're allowed to do minor work such as changing shower heads, but anything serious should be left to the professionals. Additionally, all gas works need to be completed by licensed professionals.

3. It can be more expensive in the long run

Weekends are when most DIY accidents take place, and our call out fee on the weekend adds an extra $110 to a job we could have completed quickly during the week. It's also why Monday's are our busiest day! We've got qualifications and many years of training and experience that allow us to get most small jobs done within an hour. Often we cost less than you would expect, and quotes or rough pricing guides are available over the phone for most small jobs.
