Q&A: Washing machine makes banging noises

Why does my washing machine make banging noises?

More information is required to answer this one e.g., is the noise coming from the drum of the machine? If so, the clothing load may be unbalanced.

If the banging is coming from the hoses at the back of the machine, it may be a water hammer. This can be caused by the solenoid valves in the machine water supply shutting off suddenly, which makes the hoses and water pipes vibrate. Often a water hammer arrester is needed to fix this problem which we can easily install.
