Q&A: Can I pour grease down the sink?

Question: Can I put left over oil from the frypan down the sink?

Answer: No, do not put oil, fat or grease down your sink.

It can seem like a convenient option at the time, but putting oil down the sink will cause fatberg issues in your drains or shared waste water network over time. Hot oil and fat in liquid form will travel down your pipes where it will cool, thicken and stick to your pipes. This grease is a magnet for food, hair and lint and will eventually block your pipe.

It is best practice to wipe the grease out of your fry pan with a paper towel or wait for it to solidify and dispose of it in the bin.
